Human Rights Advocacy

Towards Elimination of Violence against LGBTQ+ Refugees at Dzaleka Refugee Camp

This project promotes a community-centered approach at Dzaleka Refugee Camp, shifting from the traditional, top-down response led by the Malawi government and UNHCR to a collaborative effort where multiple actors address the needs of LGBTQ+ refugees. CHERA LGBTIQ+ Human Rights Camp Activists will lead social accountability activities to ensure that NGOs and UN Agencies integrate LGBTQ+ issues into their programs.

Key activities include training LGBTQ+ refugee activists in the “Community Voice in Action” approach, empowering them to advocate for their rights and engage in constructive dialogue with service providers. The project fosters a culture of respect and inclusion by orienting host village leadership in this approach, promoting equity and a rights-based, gender-affirmative approach to social accountability.
