The low and middle-income communities such as Malawi, the quest for equitable healthcare delivery remains a pressing concern.

To ensure that key populations have access to essential medication, Aniz Mitha, Executive Director of Community Health Rights Advocacy (CHeRA), underscores that efficient procurement of health commodities is crucial.

Mithi highlights that diseases like HIV and AIDS require significant funding, and prioritizing the needs of those most affected is imperative.

Chief Pharmacist who is also the Supply Chain Officer at the Department of HIV and AIDS in the Ministry of Health, Sarah Mayuni notes that the nation has made progress in reaching hard-to-reach areas with the presence of healthcare facilities in rural areas.

However, she emphasizes the importance of collaboration in overcoming barriers to healthcare access.

To address these challenges, KELIN, in partnership with CHeRA and supported by ITPC Global under the Solidarity Project, conducted a national dialogue to foster collective action towards ensuring equitable access to health products.

The dialogue brought together civil society, community groups, policymakers, and local manufacturers to discuss and identify strategies that promote access to essential medicines and diagnostics.

The advocacy forum aimed to raise awareness on the impact of intellectual property barriers on access to essential medicines and diagnostics. By working together, stakeholders can develop effective solutions that promote the health and well-being of all Malawians.

The national dialogue is a significant step towards achieving equitable healthcare delivery in Malawi. By prioritizing the needs of key populations and promoting collaboration, Malawi can ensure that everyone has access to the healthcare they deserve.

As the country continues to work towards this goal, it’s essential that all stakeholders are involved in the process. By sharing knowledge and expertise, stakeholders can develop effective solutions to overcome the challenges that hinder healthcare delivery.
